Description
The Chelsea 489 Series PTO Assembly, part number 489ZCDAX-A5RB or 489ZCDAXA5RB, mounts directly to an 8-bolt transmission opening on Eaton/Fuller, Volvo/Mack, Tremec, and other compatible manual transmissions. The one-piece cast iron housing eliminates the need for an adapter plate, removing a potential leak path without sacrificing torque capacity. The 489 Series delivers intermittent torque in the 201-300 lb-ft range and shaft power of 24 HP at 500 RPM and 48 HP at 1,000 RPM. The output shaft is a 1-1/4″ round with key. Shift is wire/cable mechanical. Tapered bearings replace needle bearings for greater load-bearing capability. Internal parts are common to the Chelsea 442 Series, making service and parts sourcing straightforward. Available from Pro Gear and Transmission. Call us to confirm proper fit for your application.

Additional Information
The Chelsea 489 Series uses a one-piece cast iron housing that bolts directly to the 8-bolt transmission aperture, eliminating the adapter plate found on some competing designs. The 489 Series shares internal components with the Chelsea 442 Series, so mechanics already familiar with 442 Series service will find the 489 straightforward to overhaul. Tapered bearings are used in place of needle bearings for greater radial load capacity. The series supports eleven internal speed ratios and multiple shift options, and offers twenty-seven output configurations including a 360-degree rotatable flange with a greaseable shaft. Typical applications include utility trucks, dump trucks and trailers, aerial equipment, snow and ice removal units, and fire and rescue vehicles.
